Biography

My name is Karl Andrews and I am from Wellington, New Zealand.
I am a full time artist who has studied and practiced art for the past 14 - 15 years.

I studied Illustration and Fine Art at both Polytechnic and University levels but unfortunately I was not able to afford to
complete my courses. The cost of materials at the time left me broke and I had to sell everything I had to finish the five
years which I did complete. So I off I went into the 'real world' to sell my artwork to survive.

If I was to collect most of the work I have completed and put it in a pile right now, it would be traditional brush and canvas work.
However I have moved to the using Photoshop and a tablet for my illustrative work. I enjoy both Illustration and traditional Fine Art,
metaphors and narratives are usually found somewhere in most of my work.

I hope you enjoy browsing my work as much as I do creating it. And thanks for reading.

Sunset Paintings 2005 - 2011
I was outside my house, the sky was lit into a fire ball of dark oranges and reds (photo below)...it was nothing like I had ever
seen before in Wellington as most of our sunsets are pink. It couldn't have been more apt. I was struggling as an artist and I
needed some ideas quick. The sky was so awesome that night and I was so taken in by this ray of light,
I decided it was time to start painting this sunset series.
